TALK TALK TALK
“He can talk, talk, talk, talk bicker, bicker, bicker, but he doesn’t know the territory.” So goes the opening lines of a song from that ever popular musical hit of decades ago, Music Man.
I Don’t know about you, but don’t you get tired of radio and television talk shows that don’t communicate with one another? Don’t talk and listen just talk.
Talk show hosts and guests keep screaming at each other, raising their voices a notch to try to convince each other of their opinion.
That they’re right and others are wrong. The thing that is missing in all of this is,”listening” The rudeness is pervasive. Isn’t it the
reason God gave us one mouth and two ears so that we could listen more than we talk.
To boot they seldom answer each other’s questions. They spin and spin and spin even in the O’Reily Factor’s “No Spin Zone.”
Now I suppose I could solve the problem by turning off the radio and tv. (I admit that my attraction to politics borders on addiction and may
be an idol, especially Fox Cable News…..Pray for me.)
The culture talks and writes far too much and far too often and listens far too little and even thinks much less.
Another component of this “talkies” is the downright rudeness these so called professional people, (journalist, pundits,
politicians, celebrities et al) demonstrate towards each other who at the same time lecture to us how we’re suppose to behave.
If talking was to help matters out, why is it that things in this country are such a mess. Maybe we should launch “listen radio”
and “listen TV”.
The Bible has much to say about this: “A fool multiplies words, though no man knows what is to be, and who can tell him what will be after him?” Lev 10:14
“The more words, the more vanity, and what is the advantage to man?” Lev 6:11
